Roni. The Island Van
If you think my stories are great. Let me tell you about my van.
A man at canoe club knew I was looking for an “Island Van.” Something that could get multiple people around when they came to visit. I didn’t care what it looked like. It just had to hold seven people. Something I could turn the keys off, hand them over, and not really care about.
My price limit was $4,000. Isnsurance was going to be $50 per month. NOTHING was going to hurt this van. Plus, you looked like a local.
He texted me:
“There’s a lady I know from church trying to get rid of a van.”
She calls me.
“I heard you might want a van.”
No. Never, is what I’m thinking.
“I have a van I’m trying to sell. It’s $3,500. The windshield is cracked. The door is dented. The registration is expired. You might need new tires.”
Perfect.
She keeps going.
“The right sliding door doesn’t always open. The paint is faded. The A/C comes on and off. The fabric on the ceiling is floating and needs tacks. The passenger window doesn’t roll down.”
I’ll give it to you at $3k for the volunteer work you are doing with the Keiki’s (kids) (at Canoe Club)
Honestly, it sounded like the most perfect thing, at the time, I could ever want.
That realization hit me standing in a grocery store parking lot.
My, how my tastes have changed.
Now let me tell you about the adventures of Roni — the Island Van.

I can’t wait to hear the stories!
